I'm going to show you an activity that can be done with 6-8 years-old-kids to practice speaking skill.
In the class, you play the song: TEN LITTLE AEROPLANES, and then you start a conversation about this subject. I'll show how I do it:
First I play the song,
Then, I ask them to watch it again and choose their favourite aeroplane, and they can sing at the same time. They work in groups of four making questions and answering; practising the following structures:
What's your favourite ....?
It's ....
Back all together, I ask them about what they'd like to be when they grow up in order to practice again the SPEAKING SKILL. In order to learn some vocabulary about professions and use it in the speaking, they'll do the PUZZLE I've made for this purpose. Please click on the link bellow to go to the activity...
Hi, Monica It´s Elena Remón , a Unir classmate. I think it is a very good way of motivating students. They love songs and I´m sure when they see this video they will go mad!
Thank you Elena, I believe so. I've tried it in my extracurricular classes and it really works. At the beginning it's hard for them to talk in English, but once they get used, they feel more comfortable.
Hi Monica. I agree with you two, children love songs and so they are a good resource for starting a lesson. I'm not a teacher yet but my 4-year-old nephew loves that song. By the moment my teaching practice is reduced to my family =)
Hi Monica, This activdad is fun and entertaining for students. I congratulate you because it is a great resource to use with our students. Best regards, Jose Julian
I completely agree with the previous comments. Children love songs so I can´t imagine a better way for them to learn. They practice speaking, listening and reading ( provided that songs are subtitled in English ). I am not a teacher yet so my teaching experience isn´t valuable, however I practice with my sons every week and teaching with songs works.
Hello Mónica: I am Mirian, I am a teacher and I work with children between three and five years old and I think that singing is the best way for them to learn, so thank you for this activity. Even when you want to tell them something if you say it with music is more motivated for them. Congratulations.
Hi, Monica I am Cristina del Valle. I think it is a very good way of motivating students. They love songs and I´m sure when they see this video they will go mad! I also used a song for teaching colour to the smallest in my blog, I consider the song very motivated for them.
